These bacteria damage the upper respiratory
system, causing inflammation and eventually lead-
ing to serious respiratory illness. They are transmit-
ted among humans through sneezing and coughing
while in close contact with others. The most com-
mon symptom is an uncontrollable, violent cough
that develops 7-10 days after exposure. Vaccination
